FAQ: Compulsory Filing of Registers of Directors in BVI

Recent amendments to the BVI Business Companies Act 2004 introduced a requirement for the compulsory filing of a company’s Register of Directors with the Registrar of Companies, with effect from 1 April 2016. The filing is not available to the public unless the company elects for the filing to be public.

A company incorporated on or after 1 April 2016 must file a copy of its Register of Directors within 21 days of the appointment of its first directors and transitional arrangements apply to companies which were registered and in good standing on 31 March 2016. These companies are required to file a copy of their Register of Directors no later than 31 March 2017 although 30 September 2016 is the recommended deadline to minimise the filing fee.
